Please feel free to pitch in with your own notes and ideas so that others can benefit from this.

May Allah bless you with what is best in the Hereafter and in this world!

  9. Salam,

    Very good blog Mash’Allah.

Please add my blog to your blogroll.

    Wassalam

  10. Mawlana Hasan,
Thanks for visiting. I have no problem adding your site to my blogroll;however, one of the links on your page, theboinq.wordpress.com, led me to a web site which had some objectionable posts on it. Any thoughts?

    May Allah bless you!

  11. hmmm, sounds familiar

  12. By the way, how far are you guys in the online class now? Does mufti sahib still do hidayatun nahw dars afterwards?

  13. Godilali,
Welcome and thanks for stopping by. No, we are not doing Hidayatun Nahw in this course, or not at least for now. Just Nahw itself and Sarf. Did you take this course? How was your experience?

    May Allah bless you!

  14. I took the class last year, and I also attended the first few lessons in this current online class (I was Ali_Godil), and unless I was hallucinating, he would cover hidayatun nahw after the level I lesson.

Anyhow, these classes are very beneficial. They provide an excellent foundation for furthering your study of the language. A bit of advice would be to make a list of all of the new vocabulary you aquire in qasas. If it is a verb, list the perfect and imperfect tenses and masdar, and if it is an ism, include its plural as well. Otherwise, you will not effectively aquire the vocabulary. Additionally, be persistant; some of the topics, especially ta’leel in sarf, can be quite discouraging at first, but if you remain stedfast, you will begin to understand them.

  15. Thanks for the advice , Ali. Insha Allah I will try to stick to it 🙂
And yes, you are right in that the couse is very beneficial for understanding and furthering one’s knowledge of Arabic

  35. Ibn Uthman permalink

    Assalamu ‘alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

Could this be the English translation of “Qasasun Nabiyyeen”? (http://onlineislamicstore.com/b2633.html). I’m almost sure that I came across an English translation of Abul-Hasan Ali al-Nadwi’s “Qasasun Nabiyyeen”. I remember having seen a French translation of it in Damascus.

Also, considering that the Arabic of the Qasasun-Nabiyyeen is not so difficult or rather gets gradually and progressively more difficult, would’nt it be better to just use the Arabic? This is just my own personal view. The translation might be good, though, for self-learning to check your own translation against.

  36. Ibn Uthman,
I would defnitely agree with you. Nothing better than reading and learning using Arabic itself. One of the best thing about the Arabic version is that you can do tarkeeb which is not possible to do in a translated version

    Jazak Allah!

i Was wondering in shariah program how much time outside class should we be willing to spend? i can only spend an hr every day out of class is that okay or should i opt for Sunnipath?
do u guys take notes or not?
is this program for beginners with 0 knowledge of arabic?
do we have to memorize things?
is it so fast paced that if u fall behind u are likely to quit?

    jazakallah

  38. Assalam o Alaikum Zaid,
Here are answers to your queries:

    1) How much time outside class should we be willing to spend?
The classes are on weekends; if you spend two hours through the week that should be enough for you

2)Do u guys take notes or not?
I do and then I blog them 🙂

3)Is this program for beginners with 0 knowledge of Arabic?
The only requirement for this program is that you know the alpahabet and how to read Arabic. Here is a rule of thumb: if you have read the Quran then that should be sufficient

4)Do we have to memorize things?
Yes, but then no knowledge comes without retention

5)Is it so fast paced that if u fall behind u are likely to quit?
No it is not. Each lecture is recorded and you can listen back to it as many time as you like by downloading the audio files

Hope this helps you making the decision

    Jazak Allah!

  39. Zaid permalink

    salaam
so only 2hrs a week is all we have to put out for shariah program
    excluding the classes
im planning to do it online so would this apply to this situtution too? I knoe u take notes but would u recommend taking notes? or can i get the notes from u 😉

  40. Assalam o Alaikum Zaid,
Yes, even if you do online then you can out 2hrs other than the classes and should feel at par with the rest of the class.
I would highly recommend that you take notes since they will be your reference point coupled with the audio recordings.
All my notes are on the blog 🙂 so you already have them!

    Jazak Allah!

  41. Assalaamu alaikum

can u direct me to the notes which u took in the beginning of the course in feb of 2007

  45. Zaid permalink

    last thing sheepoo
what u would recommend for me to do to prepare for shariah program? memorize anything?

and outside of class what type of material do we have to study or do we just review the lesson.

  46. Zaid permalink

btw are there classes during the summer because one big prob is that i usually go to pakistan from june-aug during the summer and i usually dont have internet there. so that is a big prob.

  47. Zaid,
The blog here is all (or almost all) of my notes from Shariah Program, up until Sept 2007.So the earlier posts in the blog are the earlier notes from the class.
If you know Arabic reading and writing that should be sufficient for you to get started with Shariah Program. The course continues through the summer and the breaks are usually only for long weekends. I would highly recommend that you do not skip classes. Worst come worst, you can listen back to the audio recordings of each class.

    Hope that helps,

    Jazak Allah!

    The Structure of Arabic Language

Nahw – An Introduction to the Science of Arabic Grammar

These should be a good starting for an absolute beginner of Classical Arabic

  57. Assalam alaikum. Wow, never stumbled here before today. It’s a wonderful job that you are doing. I must make some time to go through most of your posts and try to learn from them. I just skimmed through today after seeing your comment at Unique’s blog.

Keep up the good work. And about your comment over at Unique’s blog, I don’t think site traffic matters that much for blogs like yours which have scholarly content. Such blogs don’t necessarily promote discussion, but as you said, even if one person benefits, you have got your reward from Allah. Jazakallahu fid daareini khaira, Ameen.

  75. Imen,
I have added your site to my links sections. The site looks really very useful for students of Quranic Linguistics. If I may suggest an enhancement: if at all possible please also include the Classical Arabic terms of Grammar (e.g. masdar, maf’ool mutlaq, faa’il etc.) since this will make it very easy for any student to follow the grammatical terms.

Brother I have noticed there is an issue with the Arabic fonts not displaying properly on some systems. This issue can be easily solved by using webfonts. When a webfont is used, the user does not need to have the fonts installed on his machine. The font is loaded from the website itself.

You can convert any Arabic font into a webfont by using one of the many webfont generators online. There are many tutorials on how to add them to one’s website. It is a very easy task, but one with a lot of benefit.
